DRAYTON, John (1766-1822) was Governor of South Carolina and a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. Drayton was twice elected as Governor serving, 1801-1803, and 1809-1810. This pre-printed and filled out land grant, 15" x 11" is issued to John Wainwright, May 17th, 1810, granting 1000 acres in the district of Lexington on Mile Creek. There is a second manuscript document, 10" x 14", attached which is attached with ribbon. This document is signed by the governor, "John Drayton" and provides a schematic of the plot. Both pieces show wear, folds, and occasional minor tears.
