Manuscript Document Signed “S. Talbert” 2pp. folio, January 12, 1824, being an “Inventory of the sale of the Estate of Jos. Chambers & wife Eliza Chambers...to the bidders named and for the prices annexed...” Includes the sale of “Negro man Squire & Wife Beck...$700”, “Negro woman Mint $250”, “Negro woman Milly & child Martin $500”, “Negro woman Grace & child Neal $500”, “Negro man Bill & wife Polly”, “Negro man Bob & wife Phebe & their three children girl Hannah, girl Jonah & Boy Bill $1500”, “Negro man Simon & wife Patience. $1000”. Fine condition. Josiah Chambers bought this property from his parent's estate. He owned Oakland Plantation and by 1860 owned 366 slaves. At the end of the war, he was forced to sell half of his lands.
