c. 1868 Newspaper Reproduction of the 1768 Paul Revere Engraving entitled: "A VIEW OF PART OF THE TOWN OF BOSTON IN NEW ENGLAND AND BRITISH SHIPS OF WAR, LANDING THEIR TROOPS 1768”, Very Fine. A wonderful and rare facsimile of the original Paul Revere Engraving, measuring 14’ x 8.75", with an additional 2.5” x 4.75” piece at top that is folded down in back for better presentation. This was most likely published in 1868, partly based on the style of the newspaper advertisements printed on its reverse side, and partly because this was the commemoration year of the 100th Anniversary of British troops landing in Boston. Revere recorded the events in this wonderful engraving, where he also noted in comments at the bottom, “... (The British) landed on the Long Wharf; there Formed and Marched with insolent Parade, Drums beating, Fifes playing, and Colours flying, up King Street, each Soldier having received 16 rounds of Powder and Ball.” In less than two years, some of those soldiers would be firing powder and balls at American colonists on King Street on March 5, 1770 in what became known as the Boston Massacre. The corner tips are slightly cropped, apparently for a prior display. This example is suitable for framing and is very well executed and printed on period wove newsprint paper. Rare, being the first example of this historic Paul Revere print we have offered in this reproduced form.
