Valuing personal freedom for everyone, abolitionists truly believed that “All men are created equal.” They fought fiercely to end the institution of slavery, and through the cooperation of many, American slavery was abolished in 1865. One of the most important tools of the Abolitionist Movement was the printed word. Beginning in the 1830s, anti-slavery advocates printed countless numbers of newspapers, pamphlets and books that challenged the slave system. The grouping includes; “Herald of Freedom” Concord NH., March 17, 1843... plus, “Emancipator and Free American” Boston, August 31, 1843; ... plus, “The Signal of Liberty” Ann Arbo (MI) March 30, 1846; ... plus, “National Anti-Slavery Standard” New York, October 14, 1854; ... plus, “The Anti-Slavery Bugle”, Salem (OH), June 16, 1855; ... plus, “The National Era”, Washington DC., March 19, 1857; “The Liberator” Boston, June 2, 1865. All issues are disbound, occasional edge tear, still some very unique titles in this grouping.
