DEWEY, George (December 26, 1837 – January 16, 1917) was Admiral of the Navy, the only person in United States history to have attained the rank. Endorsed Check, “for deposit Geo. G. Dewey” on the $100 check written to him December22, 1900 by his wife, “Mildred Dewey”. MCGOWAN, Samuel (1870-1934) was an admiral of the United States Navy. Endorsed check, signed twice, “Admiral S. McGowan” and “Paymaster Gen. USA, S McGowan” on August 18, 1917, $500 check for 1/2 ambulance, issued by “Mildred McLean Dewey”.
