A complete issue of the Niles Weekly Register, Baltimore, Oct. 21, 1826, 16pp., disbound, VG. From the back page, “Roasting A Jew--for the good of the church of Spain!" In large part, “The following are the particulars of the lata horrible sacrifice in Spain ... The brotherhood of "Saint Hcrniandad" took the road to Valencia followed by numbers of associates, to sacrifice the unfortunate Hebrew. All the thieves, smugglers, and assassins, surrounded the "pile," carrying the banners of the inquisition and saint Dominique, preceded by monks, singing the psalm of David. Between them was placed their unfortunate victim, who was clad in a smock frock, upon which was painted various devils, having on his head a pasteboard cap, decotated with fiames of fire. He was escorted by two Dominician friars, who complimented him upon the occasion of his being about to be burntd for the salvation of his soul; they embraced him. ' The wretched man having been gagged and tied down, the torch was applied, and the torturers surrounded the pile, singing hymns to drown his cries.
