A rare war-date Confederate female nurse hopeful's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Mrs. C. E. Trueheart, Demopolis, Ala., June 20, 1861, to Alabama Governor Andrew B. Moore, stating, in part: "Wishing to be useful to my country in this her hour of trial & feeling that woman's mission is to soothe, to bind up & to heal. I…offer my services as a nurse for the sick & wounded among the soldiers of our Southern Army…I am ready to go to any point that I may be needed & devote my time, energy, strength & if necessary my life…I should prefer Richmond as I have friends there & as brother Robt. H. Smith [Robert Hardy Smith 1813-1878] will be in that place during the session of the summer Congress. But I will go where duty calls me…Mrs. C. E. Trueheart…". Minor soiling, else VG.
