Reprint, Book of the Hebrew New Testament, 1817, London, Excudebat A. Macintosh, Spitalfields, 248 pp.,hard bound, ex-library, VG. The London Society for Promoting Christianity among the Jews (commonly known as the London Jews Society) was founded in 1809. Soon thereafter the Society secretary, T. Fry, assisted by G. B. Collier and other scholars, prepared a fresh version of the New Testament on the basis of Hutter's (1599), but using only Biblical words, and translating Old Testament quotations from the Greek, not citing them direct from the Old Testament. Matthew appeared in 1813, Mark in 1815, Luke-Acts in 1816 and Romans-Revelation in 1817, when the present volume was also printed. Text in vocalized Hebrew.
