An unusual (the first we have seen) post Civil War veteran's certificate, printed in blue ink, 1p. 4to., being an honorary membership for the "Columbus Brigade of the White Boys In Blue" issued on Dec. 12, 1868 for Alexander McCoy. The White Boys in Blue was an anti-Grant Democratic Presidential Campaign party. They were founded in Ohio by veteran Isaac H. Marrow on Sept. 26, 1868 as his answer of opposition to Grant's Boys in Blue enthusiasts. They sought to start a political movement for Horatio Seymour and his running mate Francis Blair just as the Wide Awakes did in 1860 for Lincoln and Hamlin. Signed by Marrow as colonel commanding. Near fine.
