Patchwork Quilt, 5-1/2' x 7' heavy, fine. The liner is a solid red, the front is patchwork. Fine. The accompanying LOA from his daughter-in-law provides the background in part, "He had been awarded honorary degrees for his Civil War writings and was given the academic hoods bearing the colors of the universities and colleges bestowing the degrees. Bruce cherished the quilt made from these hoods ..." Maker signed quilt in stitch: MDE 1976.
