50 issues in this complete and authentic bound volume of The Rural Repository from June 1839 to July 2, 1842. The Rural Repository began 27 years of publication on May 29, 1824 by William B. Stoddard. The semi-monthly literary magazine of eight quarto pages would compare favorably with literary publications of today. It counted among its contributors young authors all over New York and the New England States, such as from N. P. Willis, William Cullen Bryant, John G. Whittier, and others of that character. Among the local writers, Clark W. Bryan, contributed poems and sketches and later published and edited Good Housekeeping. Another talented and prolific contributor signed her poems and sketches "Emillie." The Repository is illustrated with wood engravings. The pages are lightly foxed but otherwise in good condition.
