Political Print 8-1/2" x 10-7/8", withdrawn from Punch, August 17, 1861, VG. Titled, ""How They Went to Take Canada" with caption, " "For the Outrage offered in the Queen's Proclamation, the United States will possess itself of Canada - The New York Herald." (After the British proclamation of neutrality, the New York Herald published the statement that "for the outrage offered in the Queen's Proclamation, the United States will possess itself of Canada."). This political cartoon lampoons the performance of Union troops at the First Battle of Bull Run or First Manassas. The cartoon suggests that Great Britain had little to fear of the Americans taking Canada, as a mocking John Bull, shouts to the retreating Northern troops, "Hullo Brother Johnathan, where are you all running to."
