BARNUM, Phineas Taylor (1810-1891) was an American showman, businessman, and entertainer, remembered for promoting celebrated hoaxes and for founding the circus that became the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. His successes may have made him the first "show business" millionaire.[citation needed] Although Barnum was also an author, publisher, philanthropist, and for some time a politician, he said of himself, "I am a showman by profession...and all the gilding shall make nothing else of me,". Barnum is widely but erroneously credited with coining the phrase "There's a sucker born every minute".CDV by Warren, Boston has three Barnum signatures. On the verso, "To my friend Rudolph Kent Esq with kind regards, 'P.T. Barnum', March 31, 1876." On the front mount below the image, "P.T. Barnum". Then along the left mount, "To Roudolph Kent with compliments of 'P.T. Barnum""
