A great Civil War date, c. 1865, CDV showing a rough looking Black man wearing an ill-fitting frock coat who stands before the camera with a book under his arm while holding his hat. His knee-high, muddy boots show that he plans to walk through some of Missouri's dirtiest streets. Pencil inscription, on verso, reads, "Ex-slave" with back mark by George Wells, of Macon, Missouri with tax stamp dated May 30, 1865. Minor abrasions, else VG
