Clifford Kennedy Berryman (1869-1949) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist with The Washington Star newspaper from 1907 to 1949. He was previously a cartoonist for The Washington Post from 1891 to 1907. An original ink cartoon signed by "C.K. Berryman, July 4, 1930", 14-1/2" x 13-1/2" shows Uncle Sam picking up the fireworks labeled "Representation Brand" while "D.C." sits on the step advising, "Don't you think I'm capable of handling them." Berryman is supporting the citizenship rights of D.C. residents. Congressional members proposed amendments to address the District's lack of representation starting in 1888.
