BADGER, William (1826-1897) the son of William Badger Sr., who was the Governor of New Hampshire; enlisted on 7/25/1861 as a Captain of the 4th Reg. NH, Volunteers. Within a month Badger was Capt. of the Gilmanton Artillery Company and was made a state recruiting officer with the rank of Captain. In 1866, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 6th U.S. Infantry. He became a quartermaster with the 6th. He was Quartermaster at Ft. Lincoln when Custer's 7th Cavalry was stationed there, and personally associated with Gen. Custer and was a survivor of the Black Hills Campaign. Document signed, “Wm Badger, 1st Lieut. 6th infantry,” 2pp., on an “Account Current, August 31,1878, 11” x 8-1/2” partially preprinted. ... plus, partially printed appropriation form, 8-1/2” x 11,” June 30, 1883, 2pp., acknowledging receipt at Fort Leavenworth of Capt. Wm. Badger ...” Both VG.
