CDV of who enlisted on 8/9/1862 at New York City, NY as a Colonel and was commissioned into Field & Staff NY 119th Infantry. Peissner as killed on 5/2/1863 at Chancellorsville, VA. Vignetted image, no backmark. Peissner was a professor of Modern Languages at Union College at Schenectady, New York when the Civil War broke out in 1861. He raised a company of volunteers in New York City and rose to the rank of colonel of the 119th New York State Volunteer Infantry before he was killed in action at the Battle of Chancellorsville on May 2, 1863.
