Extremely colorful and pleasing patriotic Northern donation certificate, entitled: "City of Boston", Boston, [Massachusetts], 1861, reading, in part: "This certifies that Miss. S. C. Pierce has given work at the Evans' House for the soldiers who leave Boston under the requisition of the President of the United States." Boldly signed by official, "Mrs. Harrison Gray Otis. For the Committee on Military Donations." The Evans House was located at the corner of Tremont and Mason Streets, Boston. There Boston's City Donation Committee had a room dedicated to the making of quilts and pincushions for distribution to the soldiers. Negligible center fold, else near fine, extremely rare as very few are encountered in the marketplace.
