War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by J.H. Barrd, 4pp. octavo, on Andrew Jackson "This Federal Union, it must be preserved" letterhead, Camp Benton, September 22, 1861, and reads in part: ".... I [am a] member of Captain Thrall's company of Mo. Volunteers...The boys have all as far as I have ascertain enjoyed themselves very well...There was three men poisoned to death here the other day. As they were passing through St. Louis some of them bought some peaches & by the time they go into the camp three of them about dead. They only lived a short time...Our camp ground consists of about 180 acres of the nicest ground...Our uniforms we have not got yet..." Very good condition.
