Decorative Hand-Carved Wooden Powder Flask

c. 1760 Mid to Late 1700s French and Indian War Era, Decorative Hand-Carved Wooden Powder Flask, Metal Spout with Carry Rings, Fine. This likely Pennsylvania made Powder Flask measures 7.75" x 3" x 2" and presents a wonderful combination of correct patina, interesting hand-carvings, and a multimedia mix of leather, metal, and wood. The decorative carvings consist of geometric shapes and straight lines, typical of Pennsylvania or the Carolinas. The leather consists of a short wrap around the shoulder of the flask and a long, thin, lanyard attached to iron rings on the sides which may be original. A central metal tube extends 1.5" out from the top of the flask and still has its original metal plug attached to one of the side rings with a small, simple chain. There is also a flat metal lever on the top of the flask which we assume was used to break up or mix the powder internally so it would flow more freely from the spout. However, we were unable to actually see its movement when the lever is manipulated. The overall condition is well worn from use yet excellent as such, as shown. The appearance of this powder flask is choice, being of museum quality for display.
