Mischa Richter (1910 - March 23, 2001) was an American cartoonist best known for his numerous cartoons published in The New Yorker over decades. He also contributed cartoons to Collier's, The Saturday Evening Post and This Week.An original pen/ink cartoon signed by "Richter", 13-1/2" x 17", shows Thomas Dewey campaigning with a machine gun toting business man holding a bag of money. Each holds the banner "Fight Crime Vote G.O.P."Thomas Dewey (1902-1971) served as the 47th governor of New York from 1943 to 1954. In 1944, he was the Republican Party's nominee for the presidency, but lost the election to incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt in the closest of Roosevelt's four presidential elections. He was again the Republican presidential nominee in 1948, but lost to President Harry S. Truman in one of the greatest upsets in presidential election history.
