A good early war-date oval imprint CDV of Col. Elmer E. Ellsworth showing him in his elaborate zouave uniform as commander of the Zouave Cadets, ca. 1860. Later he commanded the 11th New York Fire Zouaves and was murdered by Alexandria hotel owner Mr. James W. Jackson on May 24, 1861. The story of his death is well-known and we will not repeat it here. His facsimile signature appears at the bottom of the image. Published by Silbee, Case & Company, Boston. Near fine to excellent condition.
