This 1/6 plate tintype is of an older distinguished black man. The man promotes a full head of pure white hair and a neatly trimmed white beard. He is fully uniformed, with hand tinted gold buttons, and lightly tinted cheecks and lips. Clearly this is a free man, possibly a coachman. Although the tin has some solarization and two minor background cracks, the pride exhibited in this man is exceptional. No identification, c1860.
