General Orders No. 1, measures 8" x 9 ½, Head Quarters, Second Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, Pittsburgh, Jan. 7, 1847, light age, fine. Orders issued by Colonel William B. Roberts directy Company's to board boats heading to fight in the Mexican War. The Company, formed by Colonel Roberts, assembled at the Old Market House on January 2, 1847. The next day the company traveled by wagon to Brownsville, then to a riverboat to Pittsburg, then onto New Orleans, and finally Vera Cruz. Roberts lead his troops through the terrible battles and the disease ridden march from Vera Cruz to Mexico City. Sadly, Roberts did not get to enjoy the great victory, dying in Mexico City on October 3, 1847. A rare Mexican War handout....
