Eulogy on the Life of General Washington, by Thomas Paine A.M. Pastor, January 2, 1800, Printed by Edmund M. Blunt, Newburyport (MA), Very Fine. January 2, 1800, 5” x 8”, complete 24 pages, disbound, small spot on the bank back page, front cover page top marginal edge torn to remove the signature of the original owner, now unknown. Printed by Edmund M. Blunt of Newburyport, Massachusetts soon after Washington’s December 1799 death, date January 2nd, 1800. This was not the Thomas Paine of “Common Sense” fame, who in 1800 was no fan of Washington. Rather, this was one of many ministers who eulogized Washington in countless churches and cities throughout the nation. At 24 pages, well printed on clean laid period paper, this was one of the lengthier Washington eulogies we have seen. A great example for this historic area of collecting.
