MORGAN, Edwin Denison (1811-1883) was the 21st governor of New York from 1859 to 1862 and served in the United States Senate from 1863 to 1869. He was the first and longest-serving chairman of the Republican National Committee. He was also a Union Army general during the American Civil War. Autograph Letter Signed "E.D. Morgan" 3pp. octavo, January 15, 1873, addressed to Governor John Dix and reads in part: "...I enclose herein the petition of Ship owners, merchants and others, for the appointment of Capt. Henry Waterman as Harbor Master for the Port of New York..." Fine condition.
