War-date Confederate document being receipt for the uniform purchased by Lieut E. Fletcher Satterfield (1837-1863), who received an A.B. from the University of North Carolina in 1859, served as a captain in the 55th North Carolina Regiment in the Confederate Army, and was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg;, 1pp. oblong octavo, November 25, 1861, fine condition. Edward Fletcher Satterfied (1837-1863) was killed-in-action in an instant within 25-feet of the Union line. Depending on the source one cites, he was killed either from shrapnel from artillery fire or a "buck and ball" volley from the 12th New Jersey Infantry. In the post-battle and post-war years, his fellow North Carolinians confidently proclaimed that he had occupied the furthermost position of all Confederates who participated in "Pickett's Charge".
