WELLS, Henry (1805-1878) was an American businessman important in the history of both the American Express Company and Wells Fargo & Company. Fine stock certificate “Merchants Union Express Co.” “$200,000 SHARES” issued to J.N. Knapp of Auburn, New York, with fine vignette at center. 1869. Signed by Ross. Fine condition. The company merged in 1868 with the American Express Co. to form the American Merchants Union Express. In 1873 the name was changed to American Express Company.
