War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. John Myers, Co. H, 36th Indiana Vols., [n. p., but Camp Wickliffe, Kentucky], Jan. 27, 1861, in part: "àI did not think that I had any acquaintance in this countryàalthough I am away from my country my heart lays as deep in another. I have should by my action that I have enlisted the second time in the service of my adopted country and while I live and stay in the United States I shall ever remain [true] to the Union and ConstitutionàI still feel thankful for the encouragement of a friend that is [true] to his home and his country. We are eager for the thirty six regiment to should what they can do with the Devilish rebels. All the officers in the 36 is sickàMarin Evensàpassed our campàstaid a little while with us when he had to goàhis regiment went to Green River about 20 miles from our camp. 1200 men was along with him.
