Two Issues, include; A complete and authentic issue PUCK, June 22, 1898, 16pp, disbound, VG. As normal format, this issue has lithographic color centerspread, front & back cover. Front cover, shows John Jacob Astor wearing a military uniform and carrying a flag that states "On to Manila. Astor's Mountain Battery" and a sword, and holding the reins to many mules carrying cannon barrels, as he leads the way to Manila in the Philippines, during the Spanish-American War. ... plus, May 25, 1898, front cover "The disciple of Farragut is worthy of his master", shows George Dewey, bust portrait, facing left, wearing military uniform, framed by a laurel wreath draped with the American flag; vignette in upper right shows Admiral David G. Farragut on the rigging of a ship during a battle labeled "New Orleans 1862", and a vignette on the lower left shows the destruction of the Spanish fleet labeled "Manila 1898".Shortly after the outbreak of the Spanish-American War in 1898, Astor personally financed a volunteer artillery unit known as the "Astor Battery", which served in the Philippines. In May 1898, Astor was appointed a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Volunteers and served as an officer on the staff of Major General William Shafter in Cuba, during the Santiago Campaign.
