Philanthropic and Moral by Elizabeth Margaret Chandler, Principally Relatiing to the Abolition of Slavery in America, 120pp. facing page has tippe-in engraving of the kneeling, shackled slave. Elizabeth Margaret Chandler (1807-1834) was an American poet and writer from Pennsylvania and Michigan. She became the first female writer in the United States to make the abolition of slavery her principal theme.
