WRIGHT, Marcus Joseph (1831-1922)Confederate General Marcus Joseph Wright saw action at Tullahoma, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Atlanta, and was severely wounded at Shiloh. However his everlasting claim to fame was the compilation of the official records. A two piece related document lot includes; The first document, “Special Orders 71”, 8’ x 5-3/4”, Headquarters Post, Atlanta, Ga. July 16, 1864. In part, “... directs Lt. M.B. Harris, Co. C, 1st Arkansas Infantry to proceed immediately toAthens Georgia and make an inspection of that Post. ....” plus, ...Document Signed, “Marcus J. Wright, Brig. Gen’l,” on “Form # 22, The Confederate States” partially printed, on necessity paper, Macon Georgia, August 20, 1864. In part, “On account of necessary expanses incurred while traveling under Special Orders No. 71 ... in obedience to instructions ... for the purpose of inspecting & reporting number & strength of the Garrison ....” Harris also signs in two places.
