BEAUREGARD, Pierre G.T. (1818-1893) Louisiana-born author, civil servant, politician, inventor, and the first prominent general for the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War Autograph Note Signed in pencil “G.T.B.” on the bottom of page four of a six page document. The six page document is copies ten telegrams to and from General Beauregard, July 15, 1861 through July 19, 1861. Beauregard was acomodating a researcher and writes “With compliments of Gen. Beauregard. Will send to you soon other telegrams & papers. N.O. March 17th, 1873. G.T.B.” Here are a few excerpts of the telegrams. From Beaureagard to Jefferson Davis, July 17. 1861, in part, “the enemy has assaulted my outposts in heavy force. I have fallen back on the line of Bull Run and will make a stand at Mitchell’s ford. ... Send forward any reinforcements at the earliest possible instant ...” Jefferson Davis responds, in part, “We are making all efforts to reinforce you. Cannot send today. ... Hampton’s Legion, McRaes regt and two battalions Mississippi and Alabama under orders.” Later the same day, Beauregard to Cooper, “I believe this proposed movement is now too late, enemy will attack me in force tomorrow morning.” then on the 18th, Jefferson Davis advises Beauregard in part, “McRae’s Regt N.C. goes to you this evening. Barksdale’s Mississippi goes to you from Ly6nchburg. ... Hampton’s Legion and others will go as soon as possible ... I have tried to join you but remain to serve you here ...”
