Rare pamphlet “THE MYSTERIOUS CHEMICOGRAPH BACKS FOR CONFEDERATE CURRENCY” by Philip H. Chase, 1950, 8pp. octavo, with excellent history of the use of Chemicograph backs for the Treasury notes of the Confederate States of America, spurred by the “recent discovery of plates for the $100 and $500 values.” Includes a very detailed history of the use or intended use of these notes, and a “List of Correspondence of Joseph Walker with the Secretary of the Treasury, Confederate States of America” pertaining to the printing and cost of these notes by “S. Straker & Sons of London”. Fine condition.
