A great early, ca. 1861, war-date poem, 1p. 8vo., entitled: "The PENNSYLVANIA RESERVE," printed by H. H. McClure, Lancaster, Pa., to be sold at Shepard's bookstore, Washington, D. C., reading, in part: "The United States, in distress, did call…Old Pennsylvania did her number soon enroll…brave and stalwart soldiers…come on, brave boys, she still did call. We'll organize a grand Reserve to march to the command of the gallant McCall…we will not tarry till she ask, but freely proffer her our service. Considering it a duty-not a task. In Old Virginia we have pitched our tent…the power of the traitors must be rent. We'll soon disperse the Rebel Congress. Onward, onward is our motto…to this demon, Black Secesh…on the battle-field we'll lie…at home many hearts are aching…they say you will have died a noble death…for humanity…Freedom, liberty, and peace on earth…". Docketed by a certain Mr. Dallas Bender on the verso and marked as "recd. Oct. 31st 61." We could not locate any in Woldcat and is perhaps unique.
