Dual purpose document, both a Certification Union soldier Herman Girts signed by examining surgeon, and oath of Allegiance signed by Girts, January 16, 1862, 4” x 6”, partially printed, fine. Girts enlisted into "H" Co. PA 103rd Infantry, was listed as POW 4/20/1864 Plymouth, NC, confined 5/2/1864 Andersonville, GA. He died of disease as POW on 7/7/1864 at Andersonville, GA. and is buried Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA.
