War-date letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by the uncle of Pvt. Henry Fulton, 20th Ohio Vols., Cincinnati, [Ohio], Dec. 15, 1862, to his cousin, in part: "…I expected to hear from Henry…but I have never heard from him since he left for the army…Cincinnati is a great city…and very well built up…if it were not for soldiers constantly parading the streets a person would nerve think of war…discouraging news again from the Army of the Potomac. Burnside has been virtually defeated…our army is again scattered all over the country. Banks has gone on a wild goose chase round the coast…it seems to me that the first duty of congress…is to make provision for the erection of an extensive lunatic asylum in Liberia and have the present administration, with a number of prominent individuals…transported immediately to the aforesaid institution where they might receive special treatment for prevalent disease now known as 'Nigger on the brain'…I must go to Camp Dennison…to see the 113th Regt. which came there yesterday…H. Fulton." The original stamped transmittal cover is included. Light Soiling, else VG
