War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written, on "Not A Star Must Fall" patriotic stationery, by Pvt. David W. Sharpe, Co. B, 1st Conn. Hvy. Art., Arlington Heights, Jan. 20, 1862, in part: "…one of our men [Andrew Duffy] had "D" branded on his hip…his shaved and was drummed out of camp for desertion last week. Since I wrote to you last our regiment has been changed from the "Fourth Connecticut Infantry" to "First Connecticut Heavy Artillery."…D. W. Sharpe." On the verso his sister gives a long informative letter concerning the girls back home. VG
