A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Henry H. Fulton, Co. E, 20th Ohio Vols. [shot by Rebel guerrillas near Pine Level, N. C.,4/10/65; DOW Raleigh, 4/12/65], Vicksburg, [Miss.], Aug. 28, [1863], in part: "…I had the ague for nearly two weeks. [I] shook every day but have it broken up now…Joe McClintick and Abe Doty took great pains to get me nice things to eat…Tod and Abe Doty have left the boat and gone to their Regt. Their Lieut got them away. I was sorry to see them go. Abe…is not stout enough to stand marching. The 76th is on Black river 12 miles from here. Our Regt has gone off on scout in Louisiana. They took then boats here and landed near Lake Providence. They took 30 rations…they left the camp equipage here…they are confiscated books and we have a large library of them…I am now post master…I don't think I will get home until the war is over…Henry H. Fulton." VG to near fine.
