War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Thomas J. Bond, Co. G, 2nd Ohio Vols., Anderson Station, [Tenn.], Aug. 9, 63, in part: "…we have left Murfreesboro and while marching…I could not answer it…we left our knapsacks at Murfreesboro and did not see them till the other day. We only had one shirt a piece. We would wash it and go to bed while it was drying. [John Hunt] Morgan did not make much in his raid through Indiana & Ohio. He came near going through the state before he was caught. He gave Steubenville's folks quite a scare when he made his appearance in that vicinity.. We are stationed here to guard the rail road. It is reported that our division is going to be split up to guard [the] RR. We have been living high on this march, potatoes, apples, blackberries and all other kind of fruit…we take all his wheat, corn and everything that he has got…Thomas J. Bond." The original transmittal cover is included. Light soiling, else VG
