War-date Union soldier's letter, 2 1/4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Thomas J. Bond, Co. G, 2nd Ohio Vols., Lookout Mountain, [Tenn.], Sept. 8, 63, in part: "…we have crossed the Tennessee river and invaded Georgia. We are about 10 miles in the state and if we keep on we will be in the state of South Carolina and that is the state that I want to get into…we will soon have Chattanooga and then the state of Tennessee will be fred from Rebel rule once more. The citizens [back home] is not very patriotic…they will let the Butternuts hold a convention in the city and make…Rebel speeches after taking up the principle party and letting them go again. Why did they not send them south where they could howl as much as they please…it would do me good to see Doc Beenty sent through the Rebel lines and I would guard him through…Thomas J. Bond."
