A rare war-date Arkansas soldier's letter, 1p. 8vo., written by Pvt. A. W. Thompson, [WIA Chickamauga, Ga., 9/19/63 & KIA Atlanta, 7/22/64] Co. G, (Columbus Guards) 6th Arkansas Vols., Prairie Co., Ark., Sept. 11, 1861, in part: "…I am well and belong to the Southern Confederacy for twelve Mo. I am at Des Arc on White River, Ark on my way to Missouri. H. Williams died a few weeks ago. He died at Pocahontas. I belong to 6 Reg. Father, mother if you get this letter you will get my likeness that I had taken in Des Arc…write every week. Don't wait for me to write…A. W. Thompson. My address, Columbus Guards, Austin Cpt. 6 Reg=A. V. S. C. A. [Arkansas Volunteers Southern Confederate Army], Pocahontas PO, Ark." VG
