War-date Union soldier's letter (with soldier art of military motif on verso), 3pp. 8vo., written by Elias French, Co. E, 119th Penn. Vols. (WIA Spotsylvania C. H., Va., 5/12/64), Brandy Station, [Va.], Feb. 7, 1864 to his mother, in part: "…dear mother you ask me if I haint tired of soldering. I like soldering first-rate. I am on picket every week on the other side of the Rappahannock River in the woods watching the rebels. Two rebels shot at me and one bullet went thru my cap, took a little hair off my head…the other bullet went thru my coffee pot…I will come home as soon as I can…what regiment is George Baker in. You say he is enlisted in Albany…direct your letter to Mr. Elias French 119 Pennsylvania Vol., 3rd Brigade, 1 Division, 6 Corps." Minor soiling, else VG
