Good war-date Union military document, 1p. 4to., signed by Bvt. Brig. Gen. JOHN WILLIAN, "Camp near Petersburg, Va., Aug. 5, 1864" concerning destroyed arms and accoutrements authorized by Gen. George B. McClellan during the Seven Days Campaign, in part: "I certify…that on the 29th day of June 1862 at Fair Oaks, Va., the regiment to which my company belongs was ordered to retreat towards Harrison's Landing, Va. Five privates were unable to carry their arms and accouterments on account of severe sickness there being no transportation for these stores they were destroyed by order of Maj. Gen. Geo. B. McClellan. the following is the list of stores destroyed, 5 Springfield Rifled Musket, Cal. 58…5 bayonet scabbards…5 Cartg. boxes…5 waist belts…5 waist belt plates…". Signed and made official by Bvt.
