A great war-date CDV Union propaganda photograph, entitled: "Southern Tombstones" showing a wrecked grave yard of Southern leader's tombstones, including these, "Here lies General Beauregard who for truth had no regard…when the devil got him he shouted: 'I've occupied him! Victory"; "Of all the villains that deserve their name Bragg is entitled to the highest fame…stripped of…the Southern flag his name has become a vile and worthless Rag". Another stone reads: "Alexander the Great founded empires in war. Alexander the little would build on the slave but the stone he thought…so secure crushed poor Stephens…& now marks his grave." An artist rendition of a free slave's face floats over Stephen's tomb while a bayonetted musket appears at his left. Smoldering homes, sunken ships and toppled republican pillars appear throughout the background. Published by McAllister & Broteer, Philadelphia. Minor soiling, else VG
