Lot of WWII tail gunner's personal effects (5 items). 2nd U.S. Air Force Division shoulder patch, 2 1/2" diamond, showing an American eagle in gold against a blue background with the Army Air Corp star above. Excellent condition...Plus; 10k gold chain bracelet etched "Kenneth R. Samples 39279339", 7 1/2" long, VF...Plus; sterling silver bracelet bearing gilt Army Air Corp, 6" long, VF...Plus; silver Air Corp wings, 3/4" wide, VF...Plus; Air Gunner's expert badge in silver, 1 1/4" x 2 1/4", VF. Gunner Samples's 2nd Air Force Division was based in the East Anglia towns of Norfolk and Suffolk. From November 7, 1942 until April 25, 1945 the 2nd's B-24's dropped 199, 883 tons of ordnance on Axis targets and downed 1,079 enemy aircraft in the course of delivering their payloads. Unfortunately, pressing the war home to Germany cost the Division over a thousand bombers and six thousand men.
