Mounted photograph, 4” x 5-1/2” to larger mount, ID’d in the negative, “Co-U-Wa or Turtle Dove, Copyright, Pioneer Roll Paper Co.” This is a copy from the original photo by William Soule, c1870. He was the first chief of the Penateka Comanches and known for his peaceful attitude. He wears a wool coat, brimmed hat, feathers, his hair in braids, and proudly shows his peace medallion around his neck.
