Cabinet Card Photograph of a seated Albert Mansker and and wife, with partial pencil ID on the reverse “Mrs. Joseph J. Mansker”. The image has amateur tinting which distracts. John Hill (aka Albert Mansker) was convicted and executed in the last mass hanging in US history. He alongside James L Wyrick, Tom Brady, George D Padgett and other, robbed the Train #51 at Olyphant, Arkansas on 03 Nov 1893. During the holdup of the train, the train conductor, W P McNally was killed. A subsequent and very intensive manhunt followed with the eventual capture of the men. Wyrick, Brady and Albert Mansker were hanged at Newport, Arkansas on 06 April 6, 1894 after several appeals to the State Supreme Court, to Chief Justice Bunn and Justice Battle and later, to the Governor. It has been stated that Albert Mansker was also involved in several other bank and train robberies prior to the Olyphant Train robbery. Albert always denied any other illegal activity. Albert, real name John Hill, was a former school teacher, Constable and Justice of the Peace. He was married four times.
