Confederate Document Signed by Dozens of Notable Officers and Men of the South

Pair of war-date Confederate Documents Signed by ninety-two officers, who are listed as colonels, majors, captains, lieutenants, and surgeons and members from Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Texas and Louisiana. Dated in the fourth quarter of 1864, being a clothing receipt issued to Major H. T. Massengale. With over one-third of these officers being wounded in action or captured and several of them having both occurrences happening. Some of the notables are: Lieutenant Patrick Lavin, 15th Tennessee Infantry, WIA and later chose by John Bell Hood to recruit Union Prisoners at Andersonville. Lieutenant Mitchell D. Nix, Co. E, 34th Georgia Infantry, WIA and taken POW at Vicksburg. Lieutenant James M. McFarland, Co. B, 15th Georgia Infantry, twice wounded. Colonel John B. Weems, Co. B, F, & S 10th Georgia Infantry, WIA three times, one being at Gettysburg. Captain George Beckley, Co. B, 1st Kentucky Cavalry, WIA at Saltville and later captured on Morgan’s Ohio Raid. Captain Samuel Lindsay, Co. H & K, 9th Arkansas Infantry, WIA at Peach Tree Creek and had to have right arm amputated. Captain Wm. A Batchelor, Co. I 48th Georgia Infantry WIA three times. Lieutenant George W. Cook, Co. H, 4th Florida Infantry, WIA twice and captured, had left forearm amputated. Surgeon J.V. Childers, served in hospitals in Tennessee, Mississippi, & Georgia. Major George W. Maxson, Co. B, F, & S, 6th Kentucky Mtd. Infantry - WIA at Murfreesboro and POW at Jonesboro. Surgeon William A. Carswell - resigned from U.S. Army and joined the Confederate forces at Pensacola on March 27, 1861, served in SC., Mississippi, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, and Alabama. Captain Elijah W. Horne, Co. A, 19th South Carolina Infantry, served as a chaplain, Lieutenant J.H. Camp Co. F, 16th Georgia Infantry, seriously wounded and captured at Antietam. Surgeon Edwin S. Ray, 5th South Carolina Infantry and PACS, assigned to the Small Pox hospital at Fort Caswell. With dozens of the others. All complete with records of their service. Over a hundred pages of documentation. Fine condition.
