War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Daniel D. Barrows, Signal Corps, [formerly 9th Maine Vols.], Signal Station, Fort Pulaski, [Ga.], Jan . 25, 1865, in part: "…I have not as yet visited Savannah but have been up the river as far as Fort Jackson within plain view of the city but being in a hurry on account of taking an important message back could not stop to visit the place…Sherman's army are on the move again…you will probably hear of the fall of Charleston soon…department papers are prohibited from publishing any transactions until they transpire…if we stop in this dept. I shall try to get a furlough…during the summer…I hope to get out of the show entirely in the course of a year and a half as I think this war is drawing to a close as fast as possible…Dan'l…". VG
